U.S.S. HANSON (DD-832)

A general purpose destroyer of the Gearing Class
honoring First Lieutenant Robert M. Hanson,
USMC aviator who was awarded the Congressional
Metal of Honor posthumously for gallantry om actiom
during World War II. Built by the Bath Iron Works,
Bath, Maine, and commissioned on 11 May 1945.
Modernized under the Navy's FRAMMK 1 program by
adding a helicopter deck and anti-submarine rocket.
